so awhile back my computer blue-screened and i have yet to probe its guts. with it went my pirated beloved photoshop, so i've been unable to draw anything resembling awesome. tried downloading some freeware today to comic with, but...

That sucks... your computer troubles, not the drawing.

GIMP's one solution. It's got a ton of plug ins but it's got a steep learning curve. BUT it does have pressure sensitivity and layers.
Paint.net is another. I have no experience with it.
When you bought your tablet, didn't it come enclosed with all sorts of stuff to paint on?
Well... you could have asked someone to take care of it for you while you were in Texas for your birthday...
;) Just sayin'. Give me a few weeks and I'll come up with something.
